Since 1923 to 1988, Torremolios was annexed to Malaga. With this connection the tourist scene developped for Spanish as well as foreign tourists. The real promoter of the tourism in Torremolinos was Sir George Langworthy, also called "The English" who had a great influence in the development of tourism in the region and has a street in his honour in Torremolinos.
In 1933 the Parador Montemar was opened; in 1948 the restaurant Sala de Fiestas El Remo, opened its doors; la Carihuela is one of the districts which many arts outlets; in 1955 the Hotel Los Nidos opened.. and during the 60's a great number of new establishments with it,the touristic boom was garanteed, still going on until today.
In 1988 the last page of Torremolinos history was written with the separation from Malaga and its independence on 27th September.
